What's the best hair straightening iron to use?

But I don't want it too expensive either. I was planning on making a trip ULTA and check the irons out. Which one should I pick, and what width is best? I have shoulder length curly hair. (it's a little coarse and I have a lot of hair)

What's the best hair straightening iron to use?
I use a CHI but that is a tad pricey. You can go to Target or Walmart and find some reasonably priced flat irons by Revlon or something like that and they work just fine. For the cheaper ones you may have to use it on the hottest setting to ensure that your hair straightens all the way. What's the best hair straightening iron to use?
skinny straighteners work better. also, make sure it is ceramic.

Hair straightening iron?

okay do u guys have any suggesstions on which brand of straightening iron works best..even on curly hair. cause most of them dont seem to be able to straighten my curls.Hair straightening iron?
My wife swears by the ceramic ones. GHD She Says!!!Hair straightening iron?
Braun seems to work well, it does for me and i have very curly hair....
Ceramic is definitely the best. Don't cheat urself buying the low budget ones, it costs to be beautiful
i swear by CHI.

but also, blow dry your hair straight as much as you can FIRST. do this by using a round barrel brush while drying.

THEN flatiron. your hair will be soooo straight and silkysmooth! :-)
GIRL U DONT NEED A STRIGHTING IRON U JUST NEED A CURLING IRON THE ONLY DIFF IS U JUST SLIDE IT THOUGH UR HAIR A FEW TIMES AND FOR THT I SUGGEST CONAIR INSTANT HEAT MY BFF HAS THE WORST AMOUNT OF REALLY CURLLY THICK HIAR AND CAN STRAIGHTIN IT IN LIKE 20 MINUTEDS USESING A CURLING IRON THE STRAIGHTING IRON TAKES HER 1 HR
A ceramic straighten purchased from a stylist or a beauty supply store. It should be at least $50. Use straightening products and use heat protector. Don't straighten more then twice a week. Air dry the rest of the time so you don't fry your curls.
chi ceramic. paul mitchell works great. also ionic hairstraightener is good but they are all pricey.start saving.
You need to know someone that is a cosmetologist and get them to buy you a professional one from the beauty supply house that is the only one that has worked for me and it was about 50 bucks. You can find one in there that will work
Chi is the best. It is pricy, but totally worth it.. I am a firm user of it for 5 years now and I love it.
I have one a ceramic straightener called Silver Bullet its tempreture goes up to 200, Its great i love it!
I got this one at walmart.. it straightens your hair when its WET! its called wet 2 straight. It works GREAT! I dont have super curly hair, but its wavy and ugly and I have to straighten it everytime i get out of the shower.

it was about 30 dollars or so.. Ive had it for about 6 months with no problems.
professional ones that u can buy from hair dressers are the best! philips is really good tho. i have curly hair and my hair died from starightening it even tho i used heat proof spray and everything. now i just put mousse when its wet and it looks prefect. not many people have curly hair so u shud enjoy being different!
HEY!!! stop using those irons!!!! you'll enjoy it noe, but you'll regret it later... anyways.. if you really wanna straighen those curls.. just follow this tips!!

1. Conditioner for oily hair

I have naturally oily, straight hair and I used a shampoo with conditioner and then applied a leave-in conditoner to prevent static. It worked! I used mousse and a bit of hair spray and was static-free almost all day.

2. static....

i get static hair all the time...for short releif of it, use a dryer sheet. i dont know what it is that helps but it does! don't use it for very long though.

3. Moisturizer for hair Rebecca Featherston

Several years ago I was introduced to SEBASTION Potion #9. This is a leave in hair moisturizer, not a conditioner. It's used in place of, after you shampoo. Use it regularly throughout the winter months and you will notice a difference!

4. Winter hair rejuvination Rebecca

Get your hairstylist to color your hair with REDKIN SHADES...this is a conditioning, non-peroxide color wash, you can brighten your hair color by using the shades and mixing with clear to tone down to an acceptable level for your taste. This is a great treatment for the wintertime, it brightens your hair, and deep conditions it at the same time. You'll be hooked after one treatment!

5. Fly Away Hair

If you are having trouble with fly away hair try this. Rinse hair, after shampooing, every now and then with a good liquid clothes conditioner. It greatly cuts down the static in your hair.

6. Surefire Success

Keep your hat on till spring, maybe early summer.

7. To Fight Static...

I have super long (3 1/2 ft. from crown to tips), super thin, super straight hair and static in the winter is a nightmare for me. I have learned 3 good ways of combating it however. #1 Keep a trial size bottle of a leave in spray conditioner with you at all times (you can buy these in drug stores for pennies). #2 Run a dryer sheet over your hair. #3 Spray something like Static Guard over your hair (this may stink but it's effective).

8. Smooth Hair

My stylist told me that when you rinse out your conditioner, you should use colder water. When you look at a piece of hair under a microscope, it looks like the shingles of a roof. When you use colder water to rinse out your conditioner, it closes those ';shingles'; and makes your hair smoother.

9. Better hair

Before showering, I comb my hair one last time. This helps to distribute the natural oils in your hair. When in the shower, I usually comb my conditioner into my hair paying special attention to the tips because this is where your hair has less moisture. When I'm done I usually blast cold water onto my hair. This helps with keeping the hair moisturized since it closes the hair shaft and it makes your hair extremely shiny.
Helen of Troy has lasted me 5 years, still going strong and when I straighten it, my hair looks amazing. Even after my sister bought a new Ceramic one a few months ago, mine still works and straightens better and the best part is my hair is shinier and healthier looking than before when I do it. I use the gold-plated one.
everyone says a chi or a straightener like that BUT I say just use a regular iron. It takes about 5 minutes instead of doing piece by piece(which you have to do with all hair straighteners) I lay on the floor and brush all my hair to one side and just iron it flat then I switch to my other side and do the same thing. People say it will burn your hair but it doesn't and I even use it on the highest heat...(I also have really curly hair too...) I think it does better than any hair straightener..cuase none of them work for me either.
Like freaking vidal sasson wet 2 straight... it has 30 tempeture settings and you can straighten your hair wet damp or dry !! cool !

What is THE BEST hair straightening iron?

no price range. what's THE BEST iron? ive seen soo many in Sephora and i have no idea which one to buy.

help!

:) thanks to all the answers! What is THE BEST hair straightening iron?
GHDs definitely. or any tourmaline ones (they replace the negative ions in your hair keeping it healthy %26amp; minimising damage)What is THE BEST hair straightening iron?
yep yep the chi is really the best!! there's just something about it but also my mom got this Revlon hair straightener at about $60 at target and it works just as good as the chi and it looks the same too but make sure when you straighten your hair that you do it in sections it'll take less time and the results would be good! hope this helps!! good luck!!!
Everyone will probably say Chi. And I do have to agree. They are a good quality and they are worth the money. I have thick curly hair and it straightens mine beautifully.
I know this is what everyone is saying but I have to agree....get a CHI!!! I know they are expensive but you can get a new in box CHI on EBAY!
The best hair straightening irons have ceramic plates, because ceramic plates are gentler on you hair, and they don't dry it out quickly. Make sure that the cord is the proper length for where ever you plan to use it, and that it gets hot enough to straighten quickly!! I would suggest a JDL, they work for me, and are very gentle on my hair!

Hope this helps!!
My sister just got the CHI straightener and its crazy! It straightened my hair in less than 15 mins and i have alot of really wavy hair.
yeah...chi's are reallly good.

don't get a hot tools! they are aweful!
At our salon we use the CHI iron. It is a solid ceramic plate that recharges your hair with ions that make the hair shiny. Just be careful it reaches 400 degrees. Keep it moving or you can singe your hair. It is the heat not the tension that straightens the hair.( no pulling) They retail for $150-$200. If your hair is not excessively curly try to find one with a temperature gage so you can set it to a lower heat. Babyliss has some descent ones. The Best is the CHI.
hmmm

i bought my straightner at walmart for $30 [The Remington Wet 2 Straight]

and it works wonders for me

i have super curly hair

and in about 30 minutes i have super silky straight hair

but if you do have curly hair and you're considering to buy it

don't use it when your hair is wet

it'll only make it look frizzy and poofy

and i tried the chi and it was horrible

it made my hair poofy and it wasn't all that straight

Hair straightening iron?

I'm Chinese and I have naturally straight hair but there's this new hairstyle that I want that requires my hair to be really straight. So before I buy the iron, I was wondering if I could buy those $20 ones from CVS or walgreens. I know the more expensive ones have more heat, but what's the difference as long as it gets my hair straight? How much heat do I set it to so that it doesn't burn my hair? And will using it everyday damage my hair? Thanks if you can answer all my questions~Hair straightening iron?
no, if you use some heat protecting serum then it won't damage your hair too badly. just get it trimmed every 6 weeks and condition well.

with more heat, it will go a lot faster. if you don;t have much heat, then you will have to go over and over the same piece of hair over and over again.

if you;re going to use it every day, it's worth getting a good quality Straightener. just shell out like 60 bucks for one, and get one that's ceramic plated and hastourmalinee, if you're straightener only has ceramic coating, then it will wear off and do damage to your hair. the tourmaline helps de-frizz your hair.

if your hair is already straight, start it at medium heat. if it's not working fast enough for you, put it hotter.

good luck!

:)Hair straightening iron?
i dont think it really matters which straighteners you use but some might take longer to get it really straight, i use the amika ones and they go to about 220 and my hairs not damaged, i dont think it matters as long as you use heat spray and condition your hair well and its not too hot like anything over 230 is probably not good :-) x
My flat iron is a Remmington Wet2Straight. It's only about 20 dollars and it works really well. As for the heat situation, the flat iron comes with a chart to tell you the heat you should set it to.
Buy one that's over $70, and you won't regret it. Also, the cheap ones tend to break down easily and damage your hair more over the long run.
A really good straightner is more than $20. Buy one that's over $30, and Revlon and Bed Head have the better ones.

Best brands of Hair Straightening Irons and Curlers for African-American hair?

I know I asked a question similar to this, but I really don't wanna go out and buy ANY straighter/curler tht wldve wasted my money. I have medium length brown/black hair tht reaches just after my collarbone. My hair is actually very good quality and doesnt get vry nappy. Its very thick and soft and curly, and when I put a relaxer/perm in it, it makes it less poofy. I have my hair in braids now, but I'm taking them out in about a week, so I wanna buy a new straightener/curler b4 i take out the braids. Know n-e good brands for my type of hair? When suggesting them cld u suggest brands tht cme with wide plates for the straighteners? Nd w/ the curlers do u think my type of hair wld look bettr with big curls or little ones? Sry i know this is confusing. Jst tell me nething u can find/reccomend. Thankyouu!:)Best brands of Hair Straightening Irons and Curlers for African-American hair?

I have a Chi. They're awesome. A little pricey-around $115-$120. Not too bad. But you can straighten, or curl if you know what you're doing. But that's what I have. You should try it. Just go to your local hair salon.
CHI...best one out there hands down!
i have tried ev-ery-thing! my suggestion is don't dish out $100 for a straightening iron. and don't use a regular iron that is so so sooooo bad for your hair. now my friend told me this and i basically laughed at her. andi's multiheat ceramic straightener. i bought mine at walmart for 10-18$ i can't remember which one. but it was wayyy cheap and i haven't been looking since! it's small and it heats up really fast. it works so good...i love it!

if you need something cheaper go for like a hot tools iron.

but i deffinitely recommend the Sedu.

and as for my hair i use rusk str8 cream on my damp hair and then wen it dries i put foaming pommade by paul mitchell all through my hair before i straighten it.

then after i straighten it, i use kenra shine spray. its soooo good.

both the foaming pommade and the kenra shine spray i got from my stylist so if you need stuff where you dont have to go to a salon you could use after party by bed head and catwalk shine spray.

oh and to fight frizz even more you can also apply control freak serum by bed head to your damp hair after youve applied rusk str8

    Thanks! =)Hair-straightening irons!?
I agree with Wili. I have the Revlon ceramic plate flat iron. I paid under $20 for it and it works wonders with my hair which is very thick and naturally curly. It has heat settings from 1-25 and gets hot very quickly. I work at a salon and the Chi is the top of the line, but as a single mom, I get where you are coming from with the price range. I purchased mine because one of the stylist at my salon uses it on her clients and she has never had a problem with it. No need in spending unnecessary money when you don't have to. Try it out. You may find it at Wal-Mart, Target and Kmart all in the same price range.Hair-straightening irons!?

YOUR HAIR WILL BE BETTER PRINT THIS OUT AND SHOW IT TO YOUR MOM!PLEASE READ ALL THIS INFO IT IS ALL MY OWN WORDS AND I HAVE GONE THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEMS! PLEASE LOOK AT THIS AND READ IT THROUGHLY!

Straightening: Well I bought a Conair for $36 Last year year for x-mas it works really good ( called the infiniti it is ceramic and has ion technology ). I am planing on getting a new one soon maybe a month or two. If you plan on straightening make sure to clean it off every time BEFORE %26amp; AFTER you use it with warm water and a paper towel. ( reduces static ) I would also recommend getting a new hair cut or trim to make your ends nice and even; having your ends / layers nice and even helps the actual effect of you straightening therefore it looks a lot better. Straightening comes with the disadvantage of spending 45 mins. to maybe and 1 and a 1/2 hours to straighten ( DEPENDS ON YOUR METHOD IT TAKES ME 23 EXACT MINUTES! )

MY METHOD: '; Turn on you straightener and while allowing it to heat up take the top part of your hair ( on the top of your head) and put it a bun ( on the top of your head ). NEXT take a piece of hair maybe 1 and a half inch wide ( depending on the size of your straightener )NEXT take your FULLY HEATED straightener and bring to the top strand of hair squeeze together and bring down very slowly BUT at any costs do not stop keep a SMOOTH motion. NEXT finish the gliding of the straightener and when you take it off you should see steam. if you dont try it again or you straightener may not be fully heated ( allow more heating time.)NEXT do all strands UNTIED ONES. THEN when finished and satisfied take another hair-tie and tie it back ( loosely! so you dont CRIMP your straightened hair. NEXT take out the bun and straighten that hair the same way. UNTIL you get to the back part of your head then untie the ALREADY straightened hair and finish. FOR BETTER RESULTS STRAIGHTEN THE REST ALL TOGETHER AFTERWARDS AND COMB ONLY BRUSHING MAYCAUSE STATIC!

HEAT PROTECTANT SPRAYS FOR STRAIGHTENING DO NOT WORK DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY AS LONG AS YOU CLEAN IT LIKE I SAID YOU WILL NOT HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

    Chemiclly Straightening:

I do not actually recommend chemial straightening cause it ruins a lot of people's hair. I know a friend who payed $260 do get hers done but it is fine, and it is undamaged. Un-like straightening you dont have to do anything to your hair besides wash it and go in every so often to get it re-done. But this also comes with a dis-advantage it is permenantly straightened until chemicals wearoff; you could have it permenantly, ( be careful and have a well trusted profession do this you could ruin your hair for life!!! )

    straightening sprays / creams:

I think both of these are a total rip-offI have tried to use them before I spent $120 on a 6ounce bottle!!! and it was a TOTAL waste!

GoOd LuCk AnD bE cArEfUlL Of BuRnInG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know you asked about one that is under $50, but i use the Corioliss. It works quick and great on my waist-length hair. It can straighten and curl. It's ceramic, and it heats up quick too. You can get a basic one for $100. If you don't want to get it online they're usually sold at malls in those little booth stores.
I would only recommend a Chi iron, but they cost $100.
Yeah...go to the mall and theres usually stands in the middle. Look for a Corioliss..its like 150 to like 300$(there worth the moola!) but try to reason with the seller!

You know? Maybe it will lower the price!*lol*

    Xoxo

If you can find someone who has a hairstylists liscense, you can have them go to a beauty supply shop and get you one of the really good ones not available to the public. They also tend to get really good discounts, so you shouldn't have a problem. My best friend had her sister buy her a chi iron and it's the best thing you can find and she only paid $65 for it.
bought one for my daughter, had to pay $129.00 for a good one , Go to a beauty supply store , they'll help you find somthing in your price range.Don't use a cheap one on your hair, they aren't that good to use on your hair anyway
go into a beauty supply store and ask
I use the Wet to Straight and it works really well and does not damage my hair. Its about thirty dollars. You should try it!
Go to Sallys and ask them because they will recommend an iron for your hair type
Maxi glide . It works great
I know you mentioned ';preferably under $50'; but I would definitely recommend the CHI flat iron!!! I have thick naturally curly hair.. and I mean tight curls, but the CHI is the best iron I have ever used. It not only straightens my hair almost effortless but it doesn't dry out my hair or break the ends. I bought mine at a salon for about $130. It was the most I had ever spent on something like that but I must say that it was the best investment I've ever made.
I have thick, curly hair and I use the Remington wet - to- straight hair flat iron on it. It works great!!! I also use it on my dry hair for touch ups. It costs like $30. You can find it in most department stores.
I love my flat iron. It's a Revlon ceramic and it was under $50. I got it at Wal Mart.

    Hair Straighten Iron?

I am a 17 year old boy and I straighten my sides, my lower back and perhaps a little bit the bangs. I have a big muster straightner with a silver part where the heat generates. I turn it on for about 30 seconds and then unplug it. I do this 3 - 4 times a week. I am not applying any heat protection or anything. I want to know if this is safe or if I am damaging my hair etc.P.S I only take about 3 mins or even less to straighten thoose parts of my hair.Hair Straighten Iron?
Any time you style your hair with heat, you end up damaging your hair which will give you split ends and dry out your hair. You can go to Walmart or Target and buy a cheap protectant for your hair like Nexxus Heat Protexx. I use it when I straighten my hair and I love it.Hair Straighten Iron?
    when you say lower back....

    you straighten your back hair?
Hmmm...well considering you still use heat in your hair, I think yes.

Sure, you unplug it and the iron isn't heating up as much, but its still hot enough for your hair to stay straight, right?

That means it more than likely damaging our hair.

I'm 13 and I try not to straighten my hair like crazy, why not try something else?

Like blow drying your hair straight?

Use a heat spray (i don't ahaha) but you should, it helps.

    :)

(also trim your split ends if you have any)

    good luck !
the time you use your straightener will not damage your hair but if you keep doing it on a regular bases it may do some damage. you should apply a heat protectant..ps im 19
no matter wat heat will damage hair,, and ii strongly sugguest that yu start putting a heat protection cream on yur hair,, there fairly cheap and yu can buy them at places like Sally's,, ii use the CHI brand and it comes in a little bottle thats sliver with a red top,, it works really good and smells good too..
It does damage your hair a little, so just use a strengthening shampoo. If your hair starts to look dry or frizzy use a heat protecting spray like Nexus Heat Protects. You spray it on damp hair before you straighten it. It works great.

    Hope this helps.
yes its fine, you should use a hair protectant though.
i dont think so. i've been straitening my hair basically every day for two years with no heat protection and my hairs not damaged really. just trim your hair ends every six weeks or so and use conditioner.
Even if you only straighten for a few minutes damage can build up over time. It's always good to use a protective serum of some sort, they also make you hair much softer and smell really nice. I recommend CHI Silk Infusion from a salon or SOME drugstores. It smells like heaven, I am serious, and you only use a tiny bit. When your hair is damp run it through and dry it naturally or however, then straighten it and apply a little more to give you shine and softness. You'll want to eat your hair. :B
yeah heat low or high will damage your hair.

so you should use heat protective spray.

it's actually makes a huge difference to your hair

    and it smells good.

but really try and not use hot tools so much on your hair.
you are most likely damaging your hair. but it wont be a big deal it wont become noticable, probably. if it does just go to any drugstore or whatever and get some heat protection. no big deal :)
it shouldnt im a chick and i dye my hair colors and straighten it every night and leave it on til im done with what i gotta do and i dont use heat protection spray and my hair is fine

but it might damaga your hair some

Whats a better hair straighten iron?

Whats a better hair straightening iron?

An iron that straightens your hair wet? or one that straightens it dry?

I'm Looking for the best iron that does LESS damage and LESS frizz but gets it STRAIGHT. I have wicked bad curly hair and would like to know what the most recommended iron is.Whats a better hair straighten iron?
GDHs are fantastic. They are more expensive than a lot of other brands but they are the ones that good hairdressers use and I love mine to bits. They heat up in seconds. I would not straighten your hair dry, you will frazzle the hair and are likely to take all the moisture out of it! Curly hair needs lots of extra moisture so pay extra for a good shampoo and conditioner (such as Redken All Soft) then dry your hair and put on a serum before straightening. Give you hair a break and go all curly when you can!Whats a better hair straighten iron?
CHI because my uncle invented it :]

im really serious he did, his name is Farouk Shami

    and umm well

all his straighteners work with both wet and dry hair and they

workk really good, and they dont damage er make creases

    heres his website.....

    http://www.farouk.com/
I use a chi and i LOVE it it works really well and my hair is REALLY frizzy and i never need product or any thing to make it look straight
    the chi.

I'm planning to buy one of those hair straightening irons.does it damage hair?

is it effective?my hair is too frizzy and i'd really like to have straight hair when i go out.i've never tried one of these straighteining irons before so i dunno what its consequences are.does it have a lot of consequences?should i buy it?tell me your experience.I'm planning to buy one of those hair straightening irons.does it damage hair?
    Heckers yes!!!!

Get the Paul Mitchell one...a lil pricey but works wonders!!! Also, you are going to need to get some good shampoo and conditioner. Also, get something that protects your hair from all the heat damage. Otherwise you are going to having rough/brittle/broomstick hair!!!

I would recommend Pantene Daily moisture therapy (shampoo/conditioner); Chi hair serume (grey/red bottle); also Dove daily moisture spray!!!

Good Luck!!I'm planning to buy one of those hair straightening irons.does it damage hair?
I use to have beautiful curly hair and I started straightening it. Now it never curls. Its ok to do it every once in a while. But you do it to often and your curls won't come back. If your going to get a straightener go to a beauty supply store to get it, and ask what they recommend. trust me its worth it, you buy a crappy straightener and your hair will look like crap. it also damages your ends..frys them. I would also recommend getting hotspray, it protects your hair before you straighten it.
You can get products that protect the hair

Ive been straightening my hair for 2 years and my hair was as healthy as it was before i started straightening it. The people who normal say that it damages there hair are pplz who have died there hair , so they have chemically damaged hair but because they dont realise ths can happen they blame the hair irons.

so u shuld so get them ! Also it helps to have ur hair cut every 6-8 just to get rid of any split ends that might occur
I use straighters after I have showers. Lol, and I can tell you now my hair is so not damaged! You can get straightners to suit your hair type. Since you have frizzy hair, you can get different sprays to calm it down before you straighten so they are easier to use. If you are scared of hair damage (i have to admit, if you straighten one bit way too much it can become dry), you can use heat protection sprays. I have one just in case and it makes my hair perfectly smooth. You can get these things at cheap prices in make-up shops or even just at your hairdressers. Hope I helped :)
you bet its effective it will thin out your hair and make it less frizzy and straight. But its wont damage your hair if you buy a hair protect-ant like chi 44, FHI heat hot sauce, john frieda frizz-ease heat defeat (all sprays you can buy at a local cvs/brooks. or a salon) But if you dont use any protection and you contiuously straighten your hair it will get very dry and damaged
I have naturally REALLY straight hair but when I wake up in the morning, it comes out wavy so I straighten whenever I go out. After a couple of weeks, you see a little more frizz sometimes (depending on your natural hair) and your hair sometimes loses its shine.

My advice is that its ok to straighten your hair but make sure you use good shampoo %26amp; conditioner to restore, like Pantene or Loreal. And use a good brand name straightener like Conair or Revlon ect ect.

    Hope this helppppps:)
they make straighteners that aren't as bad on your hair. I have one and used to use it everyday. I quit b/c I have SOO much hair and it takes me 45 minutes to straighten my hair. But I still use it once a week or so. I LOVE it! It is very effective. More than anything, it'll dry out the ends a little, but mine isn't that bad. When I condition, I make sure to get the ends real well. I would buy mine over and over. Do you know someone w/one??? You can try it to make sure you like it.
First of all, Hey wats up

Straightening Irons are great and as long as you dont use it everyday it shouldnt damage your hair too much. I use it not too often and my hairs fine. Heres how to get really straight hair

    1.Wash your hair first

2.Blow dry your hair, with a comb going through it

    3.Start Straitening

    4.BAM beatiful hair. LOL
i started using a chi, and before that i used a drug store brand. i recommend the chi because its less damaging (use heat proctor), doesnt get hotspots which damage ur hair a lot, and you dont have to style it so often. like i use it one day and it stays pretty straight until it gets wet. after i started using it my hair looked really shiny and i got compliments. hope this helped and God Bless.
    Hey Babes [=

Yes, like most things including even the sun and the wind, they do damage your hair. But if you look after your body it will pay off so use heat protection spray to minimise damage, use intense conditioners a lot and don't brush/comb hair whilst wet ;D

Good luck with the new style!!

    ;;XXXxxx
you should definately get a flat iron!

yes, they can damage hair, but not if you protect it

you can get any iron guard spray and use it before you straighten your hair and it will be fine

chi has a great iron guard for around 12-15 bucks anywhere that sells hair products, you could probably find other options for cheaper
it damages it but if your going to use one buy some heat taming spray it will reduce the damage some .. and dont leave the iron on one spot for a long period of time.. if you have too keep going over the spot one chunk at a time do your whole head then go back .. but yeah your hair will get ruined after a while if you use it every day but the spray does help
yes they damage your hair but ur better off getting ceramic straightners, like ghds are good, my mum let me use them a few years ago only for special occasions but now im in the habit of using them everyday which isnt very good but i use heat protection, still no good but why not? we only live once so try out everything you can and learn from experience, live life to the full!!
It can damage your hair if used too much or incorrectly. If you follow the instructions and use good conditioning products and don't use it too much (like everyday or multiple times every day) then you should be just fine. Make sure you get a quality straitener or else you will be frustrated. My favorite brand is Chi.
yeah it works and it does damage your hair but you can use a heat protectant. make sure you get a good one though stupid con air ones and stuff suck and dont work and just waste your money. it should be over $50 in a store to be good. you could get it offline though.

i use hot sauce to protect it

    http://www.folica.com/FHI_Heat_Hot_Sa_r2…
straighteners are OK to use, but with it you definetely need a heat protector and probally a smooth down. because you can get heat damage, which will make you get more frizz. so i would go get your hair done by a PROFESSIONAL, NOT GREATCLIPS, and see what they recommend.
i have one. and yes it does damage your hair. but very little. the damage is about the same as using a blow dryer. and yes they do work. they work very well. but dont get a cheep one. because they do not work very well. but you should try it. :)
It does damage your hair, but as long as you use conditioner frequently and use a protecting serum or spray that will limit the amount of damage done. Try not to use them too often, but have fun with all the new hairstyles you'll be able to do!
I have naturally curly hair/frizzy hair and it does not damage my hair. But it does depend how healthy your hair is and if you get regular trims. My hair is healthy so it has never gotten burned or fried from a iron.
You should buy a chi. and yes it does damage it but if youuse a heat protector like Nexxus Heat protexx it won't damage it.

    Hope I helped,

    B.

Btw if your looking for a cute everyday hairstyle to try out go here this tutorial is awesome. ;D

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqp6nCXmG…
yeah it damages your hair. One time it actually burned a piece of my hair off it was horrible and the burnt hair smell stayed for a whole week. if you do decide get one don't put it to max heat keep it on medium. i still use mine here and there.
It's not that bad. Just get one that isn't TOO cheap, and get some hair protectant that you can spray onto your hair before you straighten it. (It will help it your hair be less frizzy and straighter, too).
    http://www.folica.com/CHI_Original_1__d4…

Get that set, spray the spray onto your hair and straighten by section, put the silk infusion in when you're done. It works great. (:
You shouldn't. It damages your hair beyond repair. It happened to my best friend, and I'd rather stay natural. If you do buy it, try not to straighten your hair more than once a week.
Yes it will damage your hair mildy. But if you wash your hair and have it cut regularly the damage will be unnoticable. You'll look hot with a straight hair.
it is effective but if done to much it will damage your hair but i would buy it dr.Oz said the best kind to have is a conair it looks wide and its black
It CAN damage it but there are products out there such as serums that reverse and stop damage.
no it does not damage the hair, it just destroys it.
it does, like blow driers, damage your hair. but if you dont use it all the time, you should be fine.
if you don't use it right. be careful.

also you can make toast with it.
im pretty sure split ends. but if you get ur hair cut a little regularly then u'll b fine.

Are all hair straightening irons so damaging? which ones?

I seriously am SO bored of my hair. It has been the same for SUCH a long time- medium/long lenght.. curly.. and on top of that, the ends are so dead from coloring which i don't do anymore. I was wondering If I should be brave and cut a few inches off and buy a good straightener and strighten it every day? for a new look. How bad will this be for my hair, and what straighteners are less damaging? and do you reccomend I do this? thanks. Are all hair straightening irons so damaging? which ones?
First, yes, trim those fried ends. Second, invest in a ceramic iron. Try to only straighten every other day, and be sure to condition well in between. There are products made especially for hair that's going to be subjected to a lot of heat. Are all hair straightening irons so damaging? which ones?
first cut off a few inches like you were saying. Then buy heat protector spray. I use John Frieda Frizz Ease Heat defeat Protective styling spray. This helps ensure that your hair won't get damaged. Its only 6 or 7 dollars.

    http://www.johnfrieda.com/products/product_detail.asp?productLine=frizz_ease%26amp;pid=123

Then buy smoothing cream. I use John Frieda Frizz Ease Straight fixation smoothing creme. It smoothes away frizz and keeps hair silky straight. This too is about 6 or 7 dollars.

    http://www.johnfrieda.com/products/product_detail.asp?productLine=frizz_ease%26amp;pid=122

    Then

Buy a chi hair straightener. They work awesome.

They are expensive. Usually about 130 dollars. I have the black one and it works great. It is worth the money trust me.

I have long, extremely wavy blond hair, that has been died light blond many times and i it looks smooth and silky straight every time i straighten it.

You may also want to look into brazilian hair straightening. I'm considering getting it done. My mom recently did and its always perfectly straight and shiny when she wakes up.

    Hope i helped. :)
heres what i did because i was tired of my look and i had dead ends.

i got all my dead ends cut off and then i cut about half an inch off. then my hair dresser added layers. she recomended the chi flat iron. so i bought the chi. with that i was told to use heat protection on my hair so i dont get any heat damage. ask your hair dresser which heat protector works best. and i really recomend the chi. my hair is so straight and it stays straight too. and even when i dont use heat protection for a long time like a month or two, my hair never gets damaged.. good luckk.

What's better a hair blower or a hair straightening iron?

What's better a hair blower or a hair straightening iron?

im 14, my hair is a little wavy [am mexican if that helps..oh but i don't look mexican xD .. people say i look caucasian bcuz my skin color is light-ish / tan-ish] dark brunette.. i barely straighten my hair bcuz wen the salon ppl do it ugh! it hurts and burns my scalp so bad! wells that how it feels like maybe becuz am not use to it .. who knows.. well i want to start straightening my hair not like every day but like 3/4 times a month on occasions that i go out.. so i wanted to know which was better a hair straightening iron or a hair blower... [i was looking up the hair blah blah irons but then my sister told me that a blower was better bcuz the hair blah blah iron wasn't gonna do the root and the tips so i was like omg! n i don't know which to go with..] ineed help.. thanks for reading my story hehehe =PWhat's better a hair blower or a hair straightening iron?
well first off you should probs go to a dif salon...it should neverrr hurt getting your hair done lol

but id go for a straightener...

a blowdryer usually can make hair straight but its usually poofy...a straightener will make your hair really sleek and shiny

    good luck!

    everyone answer mine please :)

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>What's better a hair blower or a hair straightening iron?
I agree with Runaway. You can style your hair differently with the straightener than with the blowdryer only. With the straightener, you can straighten AND even curl your own hair. It also makes it shiny and smooth and takes the frizziness away. The blower just dries your hair...and it's bad for your hair to blowdry it anyway.
i use a straightening iron...but before i put on a vitamin or something like that that my mom bought me that protects my hair from it plus it smell really good....it's a little gray/red bottle that's called ';CH'; ... my mom got it at a hair salon we go to..but i say it on wal-mart the other day..but it's twice expensive...i hoped that i helped =)
blow dry your hair with a vent brush...then straighten your ends to eliminate frizz. but! don't pull sraight down, curve your wrist so that it has a smooth wave too it (only takes like 5 min to do just ends. then use cool shot on your hair dryer for smooth and no frizz for like 30 seconds all over. you can be done in like 15 minutes
Well there is a device your can buy at Sally's which is a comb attachment (adjustable pic attachment) that would fit any blowdryer. Focus on drying from the roots down and you will notice how much straighter your hair will become.(make sure your blow dryer is at least 1500-1800 watts for some good heat..hope this helps (20 year stylist)
Usually people at salons are rough because they aren't aware they're hurting the person. I don't get your question - blow dryers and irons do two completely different jobs.
    umm

hair blower might be as not damaging

but when you use an iron you get that sleek sexy straight shiny hair

    I prefer straigtening iron

    my opinion :)
chi straighters are expensive but there the best
    Straighteners are better

  • Minimum hair length for 1'; hair straightening iron?

I'm a guy and I have curly, semi-red hair. I've never tried straightening before, and because I don't personally like my hair normally, I cut it short (self buzz usually). Right now, my hair is only about 1-1.5 inches long, and I was wondering how long my hair should be before I get a straightening iron. The hair is already starting to curl, and that's why I'm curious.

    Thanks.

Have you ever tried hair relaxers? It might get it to uncurl.

What is the best hair straightening iron & products for a teenage girl with really long, thick & curly hair?

She curls her hair almost everyday. If there is a type of iron that is not too bad on hair, no pulling, breaking, etc. Perferably also with high enough heat to straighten but designed not to burn her hands and maybe even an automatic shutoff incase she forgets to turn it off before leaving the house. I'd like to try to also find some heat protecting and moisterizing products if at all possible. Not very terribly expensive, please. I know this is alot to ask for but if I could just get some insight on this I'd really appreciate it.What is the best hair straightening iron %26amp; products for a teenage girl with really long, thick %26amp; curly hair?
As a stylist, I have used a lot of flat irons/hair straighteners, including Sedu, Hai, Infrashine, Chi, Paul Mitchell, Solia, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss Ghd, T3, Kenta etc. You should get a Professional hair straightener, they style much better and faster, and most importantly, they protect your hair.

    In terms of performance:

The best ones are: Sedu, Kenta, Solia, Infrashine, Ghd. These are top of the line professional brands

Above average: Chi, Hai, Paul Mitchell,

Average: T3, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss

Below Average: Conair, Vidal Sassoon, Revlon, Bed Head etc. These are cheap consumer brands that you will find in drugstore. If you care about your hair, do NOT buy them.

Sedu is the best. That's what my hair stylist use. I've tried many flat irons (CHI, TCP, T3 and GHD).
Okay, well at every mall, there are vendors in the middle of the aisles and usually there is this one vendor that sells pink straighteners, those are the best ones that i have ever used and fantastic Sam's sells a really good heat protector and moisturizer. I cant remember the name of i but it is in a red bottle.

    please helppp meee(:

tell me what one is your favorite.. u can name alot more too.

    like 10 or whatever...

PUT YOUR FAVORITE ONE AS NUMBER #1!!!!!!!Whats your favorite Hair Straightening Iron? ?
I like using the chi, because it gets hot enough to straighten my curly hair. Anything with tourmaline or ceramic plates works really well because it won't damage your hair as much as steel will. The best thing you can do is treat your hair with a product made to help your hair handle heat, and then straighten away. I like to use a shine serum, and then straighten my hair, it comes out great!Whats your favorite Hair Straightening Iron? ?
    conair
GHDs! Without a doubt are the best straighteners ever made!
    conair ;;
Wiggo, it comes in diff width to what you need about 75-100 bucks tho
my favorite one(my numba one) is the chi(:

it seriously leaves your hair smooth silky and everything it says it will and no joke it warms in 30 seconds also.....if wont damge your hair and you can curl your hair with it it is the bessssst the only this is its 100-200 dollars but it is well worth it

i used to have a conair but it made my hair smeel like i set it on fire and my hair was sooo dry but the ci leaves it how it was before i starightened(:
    1 chi
My #1 is the Sedu. I own one, and it works wonders! My hair can be so wavy and unmanageable sometimes, but I bought a Sedu off the Internet, and I love it! Sedus cost generally about $115, but they're SO worth it!

Another great straightener is the Chi. I don't own one, and never have, but when I get my hair done, my stylist uses one on my hair. It makes it so straight, yet shiny!

By the way, neither of these straighteners damage your hair if you use them correctly!

    ~Elaina :]
my favorite one is the one i have its HAI

and the inside part is blue

it goes up to 400 degrees

    it works great
    Try GHDs

i dont know if you can buy them in america but in england or off ebay you ca get them

they retail around 120 POUNS [ english money] so about 130- 140 dollars i would imagine !

the greatness is they dont take long to warm up atall !

and the profesional hair dressers even use them

but they can get extremely hot %26amp; you may need to buy a good protecter for heat !

    hope it works !

    good luck !

Which hair straightening iron should I buy? (with pics)?

Hi, I am a young teenage girl frustrated with short, frizzy, curly hair. No product works for me. Relaxing sessions are too expensive and chemicals would probably already be bad for my dull, frizzy, dry, pre-mature greying hair. So, now I am turning towards straightening irons. I am looking for an iron is that works well on my hair which is short, frizzy, and extremly curly. I also want an hair straightener that is easy to use, heats up fast, minimizes damage on my hair, compact, that will last for a long while, and is that the most $100. I am planning to straighten my hair everyday so I 'm looking for one that's going to be easy on my hair. I was wondering if the Farouk CHI straightening irons are any good? BEFORE RECCOMENDING AN IRON PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT MY HAIR, which is probably going to make a journey for a straightening iron much harder. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c344/fluffedkitty/0115071935_edited.jpgWhich hair straightening iron should I buy? (with pics)?
Well I use a conair it works very good and i have had for about 4 years and it still works like brande newWhich hair straightening iron should I buy? (with pics)?
I only have one word for you: ghd. They might be expensive compared to some cheaper models, but they are the original and best, they will last for years (mine have) and they WORK! No point going for something cheaper that's just going to lose it's coating after a few months (ghd is ceramic plated, not coated) and then you'll just have to buy a new one again anyway.
yea the CHI works really well and it heats up really fast too. I'm sure it'd work just fine on your hair, but to get the best result you should probably blow dry it straight first after a shower and use a heat protecting balm or gel or spray on your hair before straightening especially if you do it everyday

    hope i helped :)
Sounds silly, but the irons they sell at the mall are the best! I would go try one out there. They will do a demonstration and let you try it on your hair. Also they say that their irons don't damage your hair nearly as much. I use mine all the time and so far so good!
get a GHD brand straightener there the best if you want strait hari spend the money to get a good one its not worth it to go get a crappy one they don't work tust me

You probably dont want to spend more than $40.00 on a straightener you will use just a little. go to target.com they have a lot that are inexpensive
the chi! it works wonders on hair.. they are kinda expensive but i promise it is worth every penny

Hair straightening iron and heat serum?

I heard that when you straighten your hair with an iron you have to put on heat serum. Do you suppose to put it on before or after you straighten it? How much do you put on? Does it make your hair look greasy? What do you do when you want to curl your hair with your iron? Should you put anything else on your hair when you straighten or curl it? Is it bad for your hair? Can you do it everyday?Hair straightening iron and heat serum?
    Thats alot of questions!

Yes you put a heat serum BEFORE you straigten/curl your hair.

If its a spary you can spray it in layers, not so much, but like enought to protect your hair %26amp;%26amp; make sure its like all over ur hair, not just the ends or roots. If its like a cream just rub it in.

It does not make your hair look greasy.

You do the same thing if you want to curl it

If your hair needs anything else, you can put it in.

Its not bad for your hair, it helps it.

Yes you can do it everyday.

The heat serum helps PROTECT your hair from heat. Heat damages your hair. So anytime you are using heat you shoud be using a heat serum.Hair straightening iron and heat serum?
Heat protector? Your suppose to put it on before you flat iron your hair, Nah, It won't make your hair greasy, unless it's a serum of a type, and you put too much on your hair. You use same thing when straightening your hair, except you may want to use Hairspray to hold the curl. It's not bad for you, and it's suppose to help protect your hair. But it only protects your hair to a point. So I wouldn't flat Iron your hair everyday, because that frys the hell out of your hair.
u use the heat serum before u straighten ur hair

put the amount that suits ur hair like if its thick or long put more and so on .. i usually put some on the palm of my hands and then rub it and put it all over my hair

if u add TOO much of the heat serum .. ur hair is gonna end up looking greasy

if u want to curl ur hair with a straightening iron watch this video : (it really works , i tried it)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xfXj42_v鈥?/a>

if u want ur hair to look good for a long time (if ur goin out or somethin) , just put some hair spray on it after u straighten or curl it

it IS bad for ur hair bcoz it damages ur hair so dont use it everyday .. try to use it just a few days a week or something

btw i meant the straightner is bad for ur hair .. but the serum isnt bad

    hope i helped =)

Ladies is it suppose to burn your scalp when using hair straightening irons?

My cousin used her chi to straighten my hair and it burned my scalp a couple of times. I just want to know is it because I just washed my hair previously or is going to burn like that all the time?Ladies is it suppose to burn your scalp when using hair straightening irons?
It shouldn't burn at all, if it does it means she touched your scalp with the plates, which is never okay. Sometimes your scalp can be burned if your hair isn't completely dried and you apply the flat iron to it. The steam that is produced rises and burns you, so either make sure your hair is completely dry or your cousin needs to be more careful. Good luck!Ladies is it suppose to burn your scalp when using hair straightening irons?
I don't understand why people hate curly hair and want to straight hair with the dangerous way u do.

Don't burn ur hair with the straightener, ur hair will get dry and thin day by day as u r burning ur hair all the time with the method u apply.
IT can burn, because its freaking hot, but its not supposed to, shes doing it wrong.

tell her to not get so close to the scalp...
It's because she got too close to your scalp.
yea, but you get used to it
    never burnt myself : S

I need a hair straightening iron!?

I have very thick and curly hair so it doesn't need to be anything too expensive or fancy and I just want to straighten (or relax) my bangs because I hate the look of a forehead full of ringlets. Any suggestions?I need a hair straightening iron!?
if your only doing your bangs, you should go with as thin as possible. it lets you get closer to the scalp, making it look more natuaral and less frizzy.I need a hair straightening iron!?
there are some really good straighteners out there. i recommend a chi, or a GHD. yes, they're pricey around $100 - $300. since you would like a cheaper option, i suggest getting a Remington straightener. i have my own and it cost me about $40 from target. i have the same problem as you and although its not a fancy straightener, it does the job. its not as good as the chi and GHD, but does exactly what your asking for.
    Just your bangs?

    The really tiny ones!

My friend has one and her hair is sooo thick but with one swipe its oober soft!

You should get the ones at sally(:

    they work wonders;
Hmm, go to Wal-Mart. I have a thin straighten from there, and it works great! :)

Is it necessary to use large velcro rollers before using hair straightening iron for straightening hair ?

No, however while you are blowdrying a lg-jumbo round boar bristle brush is great for smoothing. Best of luck.Is it necessary to use large velcro rollers before using hair straightening iron for straightening hair ?
u can get all the details from this site

http://haircaresinfo.50webs.comIs it necessary to use large velcro rollers before using hair straightening iron for straightening hair ?
    No.
no its not neccesary you can straighten your hair without velco rollers.
No, it isn't, it would actually be worse if you did use rollers before straightening your hair. Blow dry your hair instead then straighten it.
Not at all. That just helps it to dry more evenly and to make it more manageable, which makes straightening it easier. It is necessary to make sure that your hair is completely dry first, though, so you do not boil your hair on the straightener.
Not really... You can still straighten it without the rollers. The rollers help by adding volume and smoothing out a bit of the frizz and curls/waves. Alternately, if you want the body and a little wave to the hair use the rollers after straightening it.

Can I bring my hair straightening iron on a plane in my carry on luggage?

In Canada, as long as it is not gas operated...yes. Please see the link, it lists all allowable items:

    Yes you can

How much does a small hair straightening iron cost for bangs? What is a good brand?

your going to want a .5 inch flat iron... chi and hai in my opinion are the best.... usually around 80 to 100$ you can get some that are extremely simialiar for 40-60.. but i always go with the name brand cause its gauranteed.. they work great for long hair too it just take longer.... http://www.folica.com/CHI_Original_Mi_d1鈥?/a>How much does a small hair straightening iron cost for bangs? If your looking for a cheap way out go to Wally World and get the Andis its like $15 at the most, since it just for your bangs. Make sure you use heat protector. Other wise I will say Chi, Sedu, or something along them lines.

Hair professionals, Is there a hair straightening iron that actually conditions and/or repairs your hair?

If so, which one? Please give as much info as possible. Thanks!Hair professionals, Is there a hair straightening iron that actually conditions and/or repairs your hair?
No matter what you do any heat is going to be somewhat bad for your hair but you can always make it better with ionic straighteners. You want something that seals in the moisture and color of your hair instead of drying it out. I would recommend the FHI platform flat iron. Yes a little bit pricey but it makes your hair so shiny and actually feel nice instead of like horse hair. =) Also keep the box because if it breaks they will give you a new one for free when you send your box in! Hope this helped you out!Hair professionals, Is there a hair straightening iron that actually conditions and/or repairs your hair?

    TRESemme lmao.

its cheaper the chi and i think tresemme works very well. i just bought it a couple days ago and it worked very gud! i loved the results and it makes your hair silkly and so smooth and its cheaper then chi. i think that chi is a waste of money and it has alchohol in it!lol
Wal mart and drug stores have a wide selection, go check it out and decide. There's Garnier, Herbal Essences, John Frieda, Matrix, Biosilk, Got2Be, L'oreal, Dove and much MUCH more.
Chi Serum you can find at target sometimes it runs for about 17-22 bucks I believe.

    glad to help

Can I take a hair straightening iron in a bag aboard an airplane?

I don't see why not - but I would suggest that you go to the TSA website http://www.tsa.gov/ they have the complete list of what you can and can not bring on the aircraft. Can I take a hair straightening iron in a bag aboard an airplane?
yes, they wont say anything to you for having itCan I take a hair straightening iron in a bag aboard an airplane?

yes. the new thing is no liquids unless they can be contained in a 3 oz. bottle or smaller. but to be on the safe side check for a list on the wesite of your flight line (ie SouthWest and American Air)
i dont believe you can. they have really cut down on things you are allowed to bring aboard the plane. check the airports website and they should have a list of things allowed aboard the plane

Is it okay to use hair straightening iron regularly?

Will it damage my hair if I use it like everyday on my bangs? Is it okay to use hair straightening iron regularly?
yes its okay as long as you blow dry first! I straighten mine every day :D and mine isn't damged. Is it okay to use hair straightening iron regularly?
I use a flat iron pretty much every day. It's damaging, but the best way to minimize the damage is to use a protective spray, regularly condition and get your hair trimmed, and to have a good iron. I highly recommend the ghd iron, but it's pricey, about $200. Definitely worth it though, blows away the CHI.
It is okay if your hair is healthy. Keep it well conditioned and use a hair protectant on your hair to protect your hair from the heat. Also keep the ends trimmed and you will be fine.
Yes it will over long periods of time. However, you can purchase a heat protection/cream and rub it over your hair before you straighten it. It does help your hair and reduce the split ends/damage.
it depends on the kind of straightner you have

but yes if you use it everyday you will eventually have split ends

and you hair will have this frizzy look to it

do it once in a while the most twice a week (:
It's perfectly fine. In fact, straightening irons work great on c*ck breath, too!! Just stick it in your mouth til it burns. Oh, and it works much better if you use it in the bathtub. Make sure it's turned on!!!
It's not good to use any heat on the hair regularly as it dries out the natural oils in the hair and gives you a lot of split ends., Try a hot oil treatment once a month.
your hair is going to go into a frizz and damage the roots. youll end up hideous, and any other guy like me would avoid a girl like you....so stop soon!!! just go every other day or 2 days like my girlfriend.
It can damage your hair, that could lead to really dry and split ends, which is generally gross and unattractive. You could use heat serums that can help avoid these things however.
Nah it only makes you get split ends more often but you can oviously just get a trim. Get a GHD does less damage, and use heat damage protectant spray :)
well it will damage your hair and i use to use them alot and now my hair sucks so i would sugest the instyler it works great hope i helped thanks bye
It won't damage your bangs a lot. But, try not to straighten your hair everyday. Your hair tends to thin and become weak %26amp; fragile.
If you pay Obama $2 every time you use it, it's the hair streaightening tax, we need to pay for healthcare.
I think you are alright as long as you use proper heat protective products and maybe a nice deep conditioner once a week.
if your a guy it doesnt matter, guys tend to grow their hair faster than girls so if it gets split ends, u can just trim it and grow it back easily ...
yeah you'll get tons of split ends but i assume you're a guy so you'll get it cut regularly no biggie
It will damage your hair, but nothing drastic will happen
you could get thermal protection spray. thats what i use and i have no split ends or anything.
    yes it will damage.
yeah it definitely will dry your hair out and give u dead ends

I had bought a hair straightening iron for 5 dollars at a store, could it destroy my hair?

Could it? I have seen very expensive ones and there is one is cheap. I just would like to try it just to see how I would look like with straight hair

(I think the reaction from everyone is worth the 5 dollars)

besides, with straight hair, I am able to style it though to be honest I would like wavy hair.

So, would it destroy my hair?

The company is sunbeam the plates are very wide compared to the ones I saw in stores.

Any suggestions?I had bought a hair straightening iron for 5 dollars at a store, could it destroy my hair?
It probably will because it's cheap. The plates probably aren't even coated so it'll fry you're hair.I had bought a hair straightening iron for 5 dollars at a store, could it destroy my hair?
i take cosmetology and i would recommended that you buy one a little more expensive then that. if you have sally beauty supply where you live i would recommended you try one of theirs .
that must be one sucky hair straightener,

    5 dollars?

yeah it's most likely going to screw your hair up.

I would recommend getting one that's at least 20 dollars at target or something.

here's hoping your hair doesn't catch on fire.

    ;P
Wow i have never seen a hair straightner for five dollars. First make sure that is what you have and not some type of kitchen appliance lol jk
if it was $5 than yes it will damage your hair...bad. get a more expensive on. They will last longer and wont damage your hair as much

  • Can anyone recommend a good hair straightening iron?

I've heard of lots GHDs etc but I want to know what's the best value for money out there.

Please tell me which you use, if it's any good and how much I can buy it for.

Thanks in advance! Can anyone recommend a good hair straightening iron?
In the uk the best ones to use are GHD's they cost from 拢80 ($160 - 拢150 ($300) but they are great value for money there easy to use warm up fast and even work on afro hair

However just because these are top of the market don't mean you have to buy them CHI's are quite good and only cost 拢60 ($120 ) and braun .

However here are some straghteneres i would reccommend you not to use

Hedkandi - no good at all

Remington - i spent a lot of money on some and nothing

Babyliss 230 and pro 230Can anyone recommend a good hair straightening iron?
I don't know which particular model but my friend used some Remington ones in a boy with afro hair and it went perfectly straight! They're not cheap, but not too expensive either! If you want cheap ones that work then try Vidal Sassoon - mine were only 拢20 but my friends all want to steal them - my younger sister even got some of her own! I have thick, coarse hair and they work in it!
i have ghds and they are amazing i couldnt live would out them the best ones to get are the newst ones out they are 拢135 you can get them in black or pink i got in [ink wicked i would buy them and they wont break on you trust me xx
Classic wide-head GHDs. Really good but really expensive. Worth the money but you can buy some Babyliss **** for half of that but it's worth nothing. I've put them in the bin after the 2nd use.
I have a Chi and it works amazing. You can straighten and curl your hair with it. Its a little pricey but way worth it, and it doesn't damage your hair like others i have tried.
NOTHING BEATS GHDS THEY MIGHT BE EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH EVERY PENNY I WOULDNT BUY ANYTHING ELSE THINK THEY START FROM ABOUT 拢100
Defo GHDs but someone did recommend Babylis to me the other day
I paid about 拢100 for my ghds 6 years ago and they still working great and i use them every day because my hair is very out of control. ghds are well worth the money.
    Yeah, GHDs are very good and worth the money;

but the Chi is good too. :)
GHD's are the best they are expensive but are the best out there!
    GHDs lol .. =]

They are expensive but they are good value for money!
Everyone's going to say GHD's.....they really are great and great value for money...i've had mine for about 6 years so go my money's worth out of them!!!

Is it okay to take a hair straightening iron with you in your carry-on luggage?

I think that's self explanatory enough. Will my hair straightener get taken away from me if I attempt to bring it on board an air craft? Is it okay to take a hair straightening iron with you in your carry-on luggage?
No. It won't.Is it okay to take a hair straightening iron with you in your carry-on luggage?
You may take it in your carry on.

Is that expensive hair straightening iron worth it? Where can I find it for less?

I forgot the name of it but it's like around $150. I have thick, dry hair that's naturally wavy. I love the way my hair looks straight but the cheap irons are damaging. I heard that the newer kinds that are more expensive are actually good for you hair, is that true? Where can I get one of these irons for the least amount of money? Is that expensive hair straightening iron worth it? Where can I find it for less?
yes! but you can get a chi for about $100 dollars at a salon or (higher end) beauty supply. it still damages your hair, but its not as bad as the cheaper one...plus it lasts much longer. my old straightener made my hair only stay straight for about an hour. It is also lighter and easier to use, and heats up really quickly. The only thing you might not like is that it doesn't have a temperature control (GHDs, which are a bit more expensive, do have one and can be purchased from Sephora. I have never used a GHD so I can't say how well it works, but I have heard they are really good.). I don't mind that it doesn't have a temperature control; but if you have very fine hair it might not be a good idea.

Be sure to always use a heat protectant! :)Is that expensive hair straightening iron worth it? Where can I find it for less?
You are probably talking about the Chi. All straighteners damage your hair-not just the cheaper ones. Putting that much heat on your hair is never good for it. I have a ceramic that I got for like $60-$70 at target and it works great on my VERY thick corkscrew curl hair. You can reduce the damage by using a good heat activated styling cream or hair protector. Also, if you are straightening your hair then don't wash it everyday.
You can buy good (not great) hairstraighteners at Pharmacy Plus. But if you want a great hairstraightener, i suggest Hair Banana's! They have some for good prices and they work really well! Or what i'm using right now is a straightener from your haristylist! They work so well and they're really quick! I have thick hair too and I find them so easy to use!! I sujest from your hairstylist and if they're too expensive ask them to reccomend a good place to buy one at a good price! =D
the CHI? yes it is a GREAT investment for your hair.

it is the least damaging of all flat irons on your hair so i would definatlty recommend it
Yeah it is the one that uses steam right? My mom has curly thick hair and she tried it out at the mall and it made it super straight!
    You want a GHD.

What are the pros and cons of using a (hair) straightening iron?

I'm writing a technical essay in Language Arts in school about the straightening iron. So, I need to know all of the pros and cons of using it.

Also, if you know anything (emphasis on anything) else about the straightening iron that I could use in the essay, please include it in your answer. The essay has to be 500 to 700 words long, so don't hold back.

Okay, thanks a bunch! What are the pros and cons of using a (hair) straightening iron?
The pro's of using a straightening iron:

    1. Makes your hair look good

    2. Takes care of the frizz

    3. Give you the look of just being at the hair dresser.

    4. Give you the option of having Straight hair when you have curly hair.

    5. Much safer than a regular clothes iron that people tend to use on their hair.

    6. Makes your hair very shiny.

The con's of using a straightening iron:

    1. Dries out your hair.

    2. Can damage your hair if you are not careful.

    3. Takes time to do.

    4. Expensive. You have to pay for a good one because the cheap ones don't get hot enough.

Hope this helps. What are the pros and cons of using a (hair) straightening iron?

Most people would tell you a Chi. But to be quite honest, all hair straighteners aren't really good for your hair either way. They tend to make it dry and ruin your ends. Just make sure before you straighten it, you condition your ends REALLY well in the shower. And be sure to try to find some heat protectant spray. Best of luck.

I have medium length, very frizzy/curly, VERY thick, color treated hair. What is the best type of hair straightening iron?
If I were you, I'd do some research on the Chi. Chi straighteners, although expensive, will last you for years and will be considered an investment. They will also do wonders on your hair. What is the best type of hair straightening iron?

What is the best hair straightening iron for curly, coarse hair, which is a bit brittle?

I was thinking about purchasing a Bio Ionic iron... I'm really interested in one that won't damage my hair any further, as I've had 2 relaxers in my hair a couple of years ago and a few strands of blonde hair in my naturally brown one..so it's in a really odd shape now. I would really appreciate help from those who have my hair type. What is the best hair straightening iron for curly, coarse hair, which is a bit brittle?
I personally really like GHD and Bio Ionic. Both of these are pretty expensive but well worth the investment. What ever brand you end up getting make sure that it is ceramic. It is better for your hair. Also you should try to use a straighting serum that protects from heat damage. What is the best hair straightening iron for curly, coarse hair, which is a bit brittle?

Chi and Sedu has had great reviews.
    chi iron
I have the same type of hair and my Sedu is AMAZING. Plus, it's incredibly lightweight which is wonderful since my hair is really long. Solia is another great brand.

What's great is that at the links below you can read the reviews for yourself and see hundreds of before/after customer pics. That's what really sold me on my Sedu!

    Well, Happy Straightening!

    ~Amber:)
Invest in a nice one. The hotter the better. When they are really hot, 400+ degrees it locks moisture into your hair which will help with the brittleness. I got mine from sephora. It was $160 but well worth the money. It makes my hair shinny and soft and straighntens it well. Here is a link to the one I have and some other good one.

i had a chi but i wouldn't get it if i were you because for my hair (and my hair is horribly curly) it was too thin so you should go to Sally's beauty supply and get a good thick hair straitener

sorry that i dont have a specific brand
